Improve Driver Safety Skills with High-Impact DOT Training

The number one way to improve driver safety is with engaging driver training. By ensuring drivers understand the behaviors and skills it takes to be successful, you dramatically reduce the risk of accidents, injuries, litigation, violations and higher insurance premiums.

Our consultants, who are highly qualified subject-matter experts, are also highly skilled trainers who know how to incorporate the latest adult learning methods to improve learning retention for all types of drivers. They can train your drivers and supervisors using a customized curriculum developed specifically for your unique situation.

We offer web-based, onsite, and ongoing subscription-based training.

Our Most Popular Transportation Training:

DOT 101

Give your drivers and management a better understanding of the regulations they’re required to comply with in order to stay off the DOT’s radar. This customized training can cover CSA overview, hours of service, driver qualification, vehicle maintenance, accident procedures, alcohol & drug testing and other key topics.

DOT A-to-Z

Over the course of two days, a J. J. Keller consultant will come onsite to deliver DOT compliance training tailored specifically for your company. Attendees will gain a better understanding of DOT regulations and required safety practices, increase their ability to identify hazards, and make better decisions on the job. This training also provides training for your managers on CSA and the vital role they play in your company's ability to stay fit as a carrier.

Safe & Smart Driver Training Program

This hands-on, configurable program includes training for both inexperienced and experienced drivers, including non-CDL drivers, CDL Class A drivers and yard drivers, plus recurring driver training, driver coaching, and even trainer training so your own trainers can deliver the Safe & Smart Driver Training Program. Hazardous Materials Multi-Modal Training

We’ll identify all employees that handle, package, ship, receive or transport hazardous materials in the areas of US Ground (DOT 49 CFR 172700), air (IATA), ocean (IMDG) and Canada Ground (TDG), and provide them with company-specific training to prevent injuries and violations, so your employees stay safe and your company reduces its risk exposure.

Ground Transport Hazardous Materials Training

For employees who ship hazardous materials by ground, initial training is required when they’re hired and when they change job functions, and recurrent training is required every 3 years thereafter. This training helps them understand how to comply with the DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations, read the Hazardous Materials Table, prepare shipping papers, load and segregate hazmat and more.

Mandatory Reasonable Suspicion Training for Supervisors

Your supervisors will learn how to determine whether sufficient reasonable suspicion exists to require a driver to undergo reasonable suspicion drug or alcohol testing, the procedures they must follow, what to do if an employee refuses to take a test, and more. This training can be delivered onsite or virtually, providing consistent training across your entire company.

This two hour program covers:

  • Alcohol misuse, including observation, testing timeframes, effects and indicators of alcohol misuse, stages of consumption and alcoholism/addiction.
  • Controlled substance misuse, including observation, testing timeframes, five-panel DOT regulated drug tests, effects and indicators of drug misuse, drug addictions and long-term misuse effects.
Cargo Load Securement Training

This workshop educates drivers on their responsibilities related to cargo securement in order to meet regulatory requirements and help prevent injuries.

Hours of Service and DVIR Training

Drivers and supervisors will learn the most up-to-date information available on the HOS rules, as well as any new interpretations and guidance provided by the DOT specific to your business. It also covers audit procedures and auditing management guidelines, driver vehicle inspection reporting, and vehicle inspection basics.

Drug & Alcohol Training for Designated Employer Representatives (DERs)

This training will ensure your company-appointed DER is qualified to perform their duties as required by the DOT Federal regulations found in 49 CFR Part 40 for drug and alcohol testing. Training topics include drug & alcohol regulations, FMCSA test types, Clearinghouse tasks, recordkeeping, testing procedures and example DER scenarios.
